Head coach Stu Chalmers
Stu Chalmers comes to Waimairi with a wealth of experience in the Tennis industry.
A career coach since 1991, he was the club coach at Burwood Park Tennis Club for seven years, and he is a former Regional Coach for Canterbury Tennis (1998-2005). In tandem with Glenn Wilson, Stu oversaw one of the more successful periods in the region’s junior history culminating in 2004 with Canterbury players claiming 6 of 12 National titles.
He has coached two players to National singles titles, Ellen Barry in 2001 and Alice Laing in 2004 and has seen a large number of his players go on to forge strong careers in the U.S. College system.
He is a trained Teacher at Secondary level and has also been at the forefront of Coach Education for a number of years, indeed the bulk of the junior coaches at the club have been part of his training.
As a member of Tennis New Zealand’s coachforce team, he was a co-author of the “Grasshopper” National mini-tennis programme, which has seen Tennis promoted and adopted in Schools across the country.
He has authored a number of resources for coaches, is a former National selector and after a brief career change in Football (a current member of the Mainland Football board) returns to Tennis.
